Murph’s mission was the name of the campaign to help manager Colin Murphy get the Imps back to the Football League – at the first attempt. However, this cutting shows that it may not have been needed after all, if Newport County had been wound up during the summer of 1987.

The irony is that the Imps replaced Newport County the following season anyway, after winning the GM Vauxhall Conference and Newport finishing bottom of the Football League.
