David Hughes, who has passed away at the age of 65, was a midfield player who signed for the Imps from First Division Club Aston Villa in April 1978.

He made his debut for City in a 2-1 win over Carlisle United in the final home game of 1977-78 but his appearances over the following two seasons were restricted by injury

David was then a regular in the starting line-up in 1980-81 when City won promotion from the Fourth Division setting a club record of conceding just 25 goals in their 46 games.

He left Sincil Bank in the summer of 1981 having made a total he made 62 Football League appearances for City including one as a substitute. He also made two starts in the Football League Cup plus one appearance as a substitute. His only league goal was against Scunthorpe in September 1980 and he also scored once in the League Cup.

David began his career as an apprentice with Aston Villa and went on to sign professional forms for them in February 1976. He scored on his first team debut for Villa but made just three further first team appearances before his move to Lincoln.

After leaving Sincil Bank he signed for Scunthorpe United but briefly came back to Sincil Bank in March 1982 although he made no further first team appearances.

In the summer of 1982 David returned to the West Midlands where he subsequently played for Worcester City and Moor Green.
